Piezoelectric actuator/sensor wave propagation based nondestructive active monitoring method of concrete structures

Abstract: In order to monitor the basic mechanical properties and interior damage of concrete structures, the piezoelectric actuator/sensor based wave propagation method was investigated experimentally in the laboratory using a specifi cally designed test setup. The energy attenuation of stress waves was measured by the relative index between the output voltage of sensors and the excitation voltage at the actuator. Based on the experimental results of concrete cube and cylinder specimens, the effect of excitation freque… Show more

“…The grid size (l) in this simulation was 1/10 of Rayleigh wavelength λ, as shown in Equation (8). Due to the small size of the piezoelectric ceramics, the grid of piezoelectric ceramics and the horizontal space of concrete where the sensor was embedded were selected for local refinement.…”

“…The received signals were processed by time domain analysis and frequency domain analysis. Zhu et al [8] monitored the basic mechanical properties and interior damage of concrete structures with a piezoelectric actuator/sensor based on the wave propagation method. Xu et al [9] detected the debonding at the contact interface of concrete-filled steel tubes using the piezoelectric wave method and investigated the coupling effect of different arrangements of piezoelectric ceramics on the debonding of concrete and steel tubes.…”

“…At present, the boundary extraction algorithm is applied to single value surface that the boundary will not be overlap when projected in one plane. For example, the famous Graham algorithm [1] can detect boundary from 2D point cloud of convex hull surface effectively; Hanhua Zhu [2] put forward the triangle of the point cloud; Jiangxiong Li [3] of Zhejiang University proposed nets hole method and Tao Chen and Guangyao Li [4] of Hunan University proposed a minimum bounding box algorithm, and so on.…”
