Pigment of Ceiba speciosa (A. St.-Hil.) Flowers: Separation, Extraction, Purification and Antioxidant Activity

Abstract: In this work, the extraction procedure of a natural pigment from the flower of Ceiba speciosa (A. St.-Hil.) was optimized by response surface methodology. It is the first time that the extraction of the flower pigment of C. speciosa (FPCS) has been reported, along with an evaluation of its stability and biological activity under various conditions, and an exploration of its potential use as a food additive and in medicine. Specifically, the effects of ethanol concentration, solid–liquid ratio, temperature and … Show more

“…There was a reduction in the expression of the oxidative stress biomarkers nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and heat shock protein 60 (HSP60) at concentrations of 30 and 60 mg/kg. There was no acute oral toxicity at the concentrations tested (1 -10 g/Kg) (Chen et al, 2022).…”

“…Among the most common reaction activators are copper and iron. These ions have the properties of enzyme cofactors, so that the enzymes involved in oxidative processes are activated and increase the reaction speed [11]. For the in vitro determination of oxygen free radical species, the methods were adapted to allow the quantification of some primary products of the redox reactions.…”
