Pillararene-Based Supramolecular Polymers for Cancer Therapy

Abstract: Supramolecular polymers have attracted considerable interest due to their intriguing features and functions. The dynamic reversibility of noncovalent interactions endows supramolecular polymers with tunable physicochemical properties, self-healing, and externally stimulated responses. Among them, pillararene-based supramolecular polymers show great potential for biomedical applications due to their fascinating host–guest interactions and easy modification. Herein, we summarize the state of the art of pillarare… Show more

“…Moreover, the size of the guest had a great influence on the association constant, which became smaller when the size of the guest was too large or too small. Compared with the structurally similar prism [6]arene, NT3-Me with a rigid structure had a larger association constant with the same guest, which might indicate that the rigid and welldefined cavity of NT3-Me had advantages in molecular recognition by minimizing the entropic penalty in the host-guest binding process.…”

“…As an emerging and evolving science, supramolecular chemistry has demonstrated energetic vitality and strong cross-integration capabilities and is deeply connected to chemistry, physics, biology, materials science and many other fields, forming a range of subdisciplines. [6][7][8][9][10] Supramolecular chemistry is based on supramolecules, which are complex and organized aggregates of two or more molecules held together by non-covalent intermolecular interactions. [11][12][13][14] Non-covalent interactions endow supramolecules with excellent properties, such as external stimulus response, self-healing, and degradability.…”

“…However, cations would have a destructive effect on both the microbiota in the gut and normal biological tissues. It would be advantageous to introduce certain molecules (such as CP [5]A [215] , HA [216] ) to enhance the biocompatibility of polymers. Additionally, nonbiodegradable polymers have the potential to remain and accumulate in the body, causing unwanted consequences such as inflammation and carcinogenesis.…”

“…The latter mainly consists of protein cages such as ferritin and albumin cages ( Aljabali et al, 2022 ), polymer and lipid groups. And polymers could be classified according to whether their components are synthetic or natural ( Yan and Zhou, 2023 ). Lipid groups are divided into nanobodies such as cationic liposomes and liposomes such as exosomes ( Tenchov et al, 2021 ).…”
