“…Reports of Jurassic fungi include fungal trace fossils (Martill, 1989) and lichen-like organisms and lichen-forming fungi (Preat et al, 2000;Wang et al, 2010), as well as more readily identifiable fungal remains such as spores and hyphae (Stockey, 1980;Traverse and Ash, 1994;Ibáñez and Zamuner, 1996;García Massini et al, 2012). In addition, Jurassic fossil wood has been described with particular decay patterns that have been interpreted as the result of fungal activity (e.g., Müller-Stoll, 1936;Süss and Philippe, 1993;Falaschi et al, 2011). Few reports, however, provide a detailed description of the fungi.…”

“…Cooccurrence of injured plant parts, coprolites and apparent fungal spores was also indicated as evidence of multiple biotic interactions from the Devonian of Canada (Banks and Colthart, 1993). Another possible example of multitrophic interactions is a Jurassic record from Germany of wood borings with signs of fungal decay and hyphae on the walls of the galleries (Müller-Stoll, 1936). Complex plant-fungal-arthropod interactions including epiphytes, endophytes, mites and other vascular plants have been described from the Permian of Germany (Barthel et al, 2010).…”

“…A comparison with the counting of Müller-Stoll and Mädel (1962) indicates that some of Kräusel's slides have disappeared from the Senckenberg collection. It is surprising that Müller-Stoll did not note the extensive evidence of fungal attack in these thin sections, as he was one of the first authors to describe examples of fungal attack in a fossil wood (Müller-Stoll, 1936). All studied specimens were permineralized, i.e., mineral matter has filled in the cell lumens and intercellular spaces, but has not replaced the cell walls.…”
