(commonly known as aniseed) used in this work is one of the oldest known medicinal plants that belongs to the family Apiaceae and was initially cultivated in Egypt and later in Greece, Rome and the Middle East. This is a very versatile plant as several derivatives of aniseed plant (fruits, seeds and essential oil) are widely used in the food and beverage industries as a flavouring‐agent and natural preservative (Anastasopoulou et al ., 2020). Among them, essential oil extracted from aniseed seeds has attracted the highest interest and several studies have been carried out and particularly the effect of the hydro‐distillation process on the composition of the extracted essential oil was studied (Zayed et al ., 2020).…”
