Pineapple growth and yield response to fertilizer and drip irrigation management

Abstract: Pineapple [Ananas comosus (L.) Mere] is an important fruit crop cultivated in many tropical countries. This fruit crop requires large amounts of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) to maximize yield. Although pineapple has low water requirements, extended drought can affect yield. Two experiments were conducted to study the effects of fertilizer application methods and drip irrigation management on pineapple yields. Pineapple cultivars MD-2 and Cabezona were planted at Isabela and Lajas, Puerto Rico, respectively. … Show more

“…Monthly potassium fertigations, followed by four applications throughout the crop cycle, provided the greatest increase in fruit quality, allowing higher values of fruit mass, yield and pH. Acevedo et al, (2017) conducted an experiment to study the effects of fertilizer application methods and drip irrigation management on pineapple yields. Pineapple cultivars MD-2 and Cabezona were planted at Isabela and Lajas, Puerto Rico, respectively.…”

“…is an important tropical fruit having a great demand in the international market with an annual world production of 28.3 million metric tons of fruits (FAOSTAT, 2018). India is the fifth largest producer of pineapple with an annual production of 1706 thousand MT from 103 thousand hectare area in 2017-18 (NHB data, 2017. It is consumed mainly as a fresh fruit and a wide range of processed products are also prepared out of it.…”
