“…The sex pheromone of the pink bollworm moth, Pectinophora gossypiella, has been identified as a mixture of two attractant compounds: Z7Zll-16:Ac and Z7EII-16:Ac in a ratio of 1:1, called gossyplure (Hummel et aL, 1973). In contrast to most other known cases of moths using a discrete ratio of components, comparable trap catch is evoked over a wide range of ratios (Flint et aL, 1979). Flint and Merkle (1984a) found that in an atmosphere permeated only with the (Z,Z)-isomer component of gossyplure, higher numbers of male moths were caught in traps baited with an excess of the (Z,Z)-isomer than in the gossyplure-baited traps.…”

“…These findings triggered subsequent studies on the identification and evaluation of some intermediate products until the sex pheromone of the pink bollworm (''gossyplure'', a mixture of the Z.Z-and Z.E-isomers of 7,11-hexadacadienyl acetate) was identified (Hummel et al 1973). A mixture of the two isomers at a ratio of 50 or 60% proved appropriate for monitoring or control of pink bollworm (Flint et al 1979). Gossyplure has been used widely for monitoring the pink bollworm (Bariola et al 1973, Qureshi et al 1984 and proved to be more effective in reducing damage levels by the pink bollworm than several insecticidal applications .…”

“…The mixture of ZZ and ZE7,11-16:Ac has been identified as the sex pheromone of Pectinophora gossypiella (Hummel et al, 1973), furthermore, P. endema (Rothschild, 1975), Pexicopia sp. (Flint, 1979) and Catelaphris sp. (Marks, 1976) have been reported to be attracted to it.…”
