Abstract: In this work, the impact of protonation on the photoisomerization (trans → cis) and reversion (cis → trans) of three pyridine-based azo dyes (PyrN) is investigated by using a combination of transient absorption spectroscopy and time-dependent density functional theory computed difference spectra.
