Pioderma gangrenosa en cirugía plástica: Comunicación de tres casos

Abstract: Pyoderma Gangrenosum is a rare disease whose etiology is probably autoimmune. We report two males aged 48 and 49 years and one female aged 54 years, with lesions in the right thigh, right leg and in the borders of a surgical incision in the chest. This article gives a brief description of the lesions, tips for diagnosis and help for the initial management and treatment.

“…Interestingly, all patients had been initially treated as having wound infection, resulting in a delay in diagnosis of PPG, ranging from a few days to several months. We found cases appearing after abdominal 9,10 (mostly caesarean section), breast 8 (mostly reduction), cardiac, 9,11–13 orthopaedic 14,15 and cutaneous 9,16,17 surgeries, and other surgical procedures including thyroidectomy 9 and ophthalmic surgery 18,19 . Of the 86 patients with PPG, including our 3 cases, more than half had undergone breast or abdominal surgery.…”

“…Surgical interventions or injuries can be complicated by pathergy [1]. This phenomenon is a response to skin antigens that are altered by surgery or trauma and lead to the formation of new ulcers in the corresponding sites [2][3][4].
