Place as Pedagogy: Toward Study Abroad for Social Change

Abstract: Background: Emergent bodies of literature have uncovered problematic trends in U.S. study abroad that reproduce hierarchies of power and colonialism, perpetuate views of an exotic cultural “other,” and privilege tourism over education.
