“…Likewise, Brazil has a civil society coalition called “Atlantic Forest Restoration Pact” aiming to restore 15 million hectares of Atlantic Forest by 2050 (Melo et al ). In Colombia, the 2014 “National Restoration Program” (Méndez‐Toribio et al ) imposes a national restoration goal, and Decree 1,076, adopted in 2015, compiles all environmental norms and includes 46 instances of the word “restoration” (Schweizer et al ). “…Upscaling restoration in a so complex context will heavily rely on multidimensional training and capacity building of professionals (Aronson et al 2017), yet little is known about how restoration training has been promoted in the region. In this context, scaling‐up ecological restoration would rely on a multidisciplinary approach that addresses technical and technological issues but also institutional, governmental, and socioeconomic issues across jurisdictional scales (Naveh ; Aronson et al ; Calmon et al ; Murcia et al ; Ceccon & Perez ; Holl ; Méndez‐Toribio et al ). For example, countries will need integration (bottom‐up and top‐down) of national restoration programs with subnational efforts and local organizations (Lazos‐Chavero et al ; Murcia et al ; Meli et al ).…”

“…Others have national programs or plans (e.g. Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, see Méndez-Toribio et al 2017); but some still claim for an urgent need for a national long-term strategic plan for FLR (Bannister et al 2018).…”
