Planning Multi-Modal Transportation Problems

Abstract: Multi-modal transportation is a logistics problem in which a set of goods have to be transported to different places, with the combination of at least two modes of transport, without a change of container for the goods. The goal of this paper is to describe TIMIPLAN, a system that solves multi-modal transportation problems in the context of a project for a big company. In this paper, we combine Linear Programming (LP) with automated planning techniques in order to obtain good quality solutions. The direct use … Show more

“…17. For future work, we intend to include the option to switch among multiple transport modes (e.g., train→walk→taxi→bus) in the same spirit as (Flórez et al 2011;Botea, Nikolova, and Berlingerio 2013;Botea and Braghin 2015), and also consider uncertainty in POI visit durations due to crowds and long queues.…”

“…Scheduling of jobs on parallel machines is a well-known problem which has been optimised by minimising completion time and delivery time (Mateo et al, 2018). Flórez et al (2011) studied multimodal TP where a set of goods is being transported from various sources to different destination with the combinations of at least two mode of transport. They combined linear programming with automated planning techniques to obtain good quality solutions.…”
