Planning of reliable microgrids in the presence of random and catastrophic events

Abstract: SUMMARY The primary goal of this work is to investigate the problem of integrating distributed generators (DG), from a planning perspective. It relies on an optimization model with vulnerability, reliability and economy as objectives. A vulnerability index in terms of loss of load is proposed to measure potential adverse effects of undesired outages on microgrid security. It is evaluated by enumerating scenarios based on a suitably designed selection criterion. The optimization model is solved by a hybrid appr… Show more

“…The problem is decomposed into the investment master problem and the operation subproblem, and the robust optimization is employed to find a solution in the absence of knowledge about the uncertain data distribution. In [58], a vulnerability index in terms of the loss of load is considered in the planning optimizations solved by PSO. In [203], power-quality and reliability constraints are considered in DER planning in the microgrid and solved by PSO.…”

“…In the context of MG placement to enhance resilience of the power system, limited work was founded in the literature. However, in [169], a planning approach has been proposed to integrate DER into MGs from a planning viewpoint that is designed as an optimization function with economic, reliability and vulnerability objectives. This function is resolved through multi-agent systems and particle swarm optimization.…”

“…According to the studies in [18][19][20], the power sharing of multiple DGs in islanded operation can be coordinated via droop control. An optimisation approach combining particle swarm and the multi-agent system is introduced in [21] to improve the microgrid reliability and economy.…”
