The objective of the present study was to determine the potential plant growth-promoting action of bacterial endophytes isolated from arid land-dwelling plants under normal conditions. Overall, five bacterial endophytes LK11 (Sphingomonas sp. LK11), TP5 (Bacillus subtilis), MPB5.3 (B. subtilis subsp. Subtilis), S9 (B. subtilis subsp. Subtilis), and TP1 (Serratia marcescens) were evaluated based on morphological characteristics after isolation and purification. Phytohormonal analysis of these endophytes predicted indole acetic acid (IAA) production 12.31 ± 0.45 , 6.8 ± 0.59, and 10.5 ± 1.02 μM/mL in the culture broths of LK11, MPB5.3, and TP1, respectively. Under controlled greenhouse conditions, these endophytes were inoculated into soybean, and their growthpromoting characteristics were compared with those of non-phytohormone-producing endophytes. In terms of plant growth promotion, among IAA-producing endophytes, LK11 and TP1 greatly improved physiological characteristics such as shoot/root length, fresh/dry weight, and chlorophyll contents. However, the non-phytohormone-producing endophytes TP5 and S9 did not show a growth-promoting effect. Based on these results, plants inoculated with LK11 and TP1 along with a control were subjected to endogenous hormonal analysis and showed a significant increase in abscisic acid (457.30-398.55

El fósforo, el nitrógeno, el hierro y el potasio son algunos compuestos necesarios para el crecimiento y desarrollo vegetal. Los fertilizantes químicos empleados para aumentar su concentración afectan significativamente el medioambiente y los ecosistemas del suelo. De acuerdo con la literatura científica, los microorganismos con potencial biofertilizante han demostrado poseer diversos mecanismos de acción para solubilizar estos compuestos y así cumplir con los requerimientos de las plantas. La presente revisión sistemática recopila información científica (publicada entre los años 2004 y 2014) que describe los mecanismos de acción de los biofertilizantes microbianos en suelos agrícolas. Se usaron tres bases de datos: ScienceDirect, SpringerLink y Scopus, mediante la ruta de búsqueda (biofertilizer) AND (bacteria OR fungi) AND (effect OR action OR mechanism). Tras la comprobación con diversos criterios de inclusión y exclusión, la búsqueda arrojó un total de 63 artículos originales, incluyendo seis de publicaciones no indexadas. Como resultado de la revisión sistemática, se evidenció que la producción de diversos ácidos orgánicos permite la acidificación del suelo, lo cual facilita la absorción de los elementos. También se pudo observar que la solubilización de fósforo es el mecanismo más frecuentemente descrito, obtenido por Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes con hasta 726,5 mg/L de solubilización en este elemento.

Endophytic microorganisms support the growth of host plants by production of phytohormones, N 2 fixation, synthesis of ACC deaminase, phosphate solubilization and also by means of production of antimicrobial metabolites or siderophores. In the present study, effect of endophytic Bacillus sp. was analysed on the growth enhancement and metabolite modulation in the seedlings of Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.), a well known spice with medicinal properties. Preliminary screening has resulted in the identification of strains CaB 1 (Bacillus cereus), CaB 2 (Bacillus thuringiensis) and CaB 5 (Bacillus sp.) isolated from Capsicum annuum and EcB 4 (Bacillus sp.) isolated from Elettaria cardamomum to have excellent effect on seedling growth enhancement in Fenugreek. The plantlets formed from the treatment were further analysed for leaf number, shoot length, root length, wet weight and diosgenin concentration, which is the principal secondary metabolite of the plant. Interestingly, HPLC analysis has confirmed the ability of CaB 5 to induce highest level of diosgenin biosynthesis (527.83 ± 13.5 lg/mL). The obtained results are of great significance as it widens the exploration of endophytic bacteria on enhanced synthesis of medicinal natural products.
