Perilla [Perilla frutescens (L.) Britton] is an Asian plant used for both cooking and medicinal purposes for centuries (Kurowska, Dresser, Deutsch, Vachon, & Khalil, 2003). In Korea, it has been cultivated for human consumption since ancient times. The perilla plant is known to be rich in nutrition (Shin & Kim, 1994), to have several medicinal properties (Žekonis, Žekonis, Renata Šadzevičienė, Šimonienė, & Kėvelaitis, 2008) and to be high in antioxidants (Meng, Lozano, Gaydou, & Li, 2009). Korea is the third most common edible oil-producing country that produces about 40,000 metric tons of perilla seeds annually (Shin & Kim, 1994). Nysius species, such as N. expressus Distant, N. plebeius Distant, N. hidakai Nakatani and N. inconspicuus Distant, are some of the pests of the perilla plant in Korea
