“…In addition, to the best of our knowledge, there are only a few studies on prognosis of AIS in China, most of which are just focused on a single factor's influence on outcomes of stroke. [6][7][8] In addition, most research in China has focused on both ischemic stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage or just intracerebral hemorrhage. 6,7,9 To assess the profile and 1-year outcome after ischemic stroke, we employed a hospital-based, large-scale, prospective, 12-month follow-up study of patients with AIS in Nanjing, East China.…”

“…The median NIHSS score on admission was 10 points (IQR, 6-15). The median time from stroke onset to inclusion in the study was 5.9 (IQR, 2.8-11.2) h. An unfavorable functional outcome was found in 97 patients (31.9 %) with a median mRS score of 4 (IQR, [3][4][5][6]. Forty-eight patients died; thus, the mortality rate was 15.8 %.…”

“…China has 2.5 million new stroke cases each year and 7.5 million stroke survivors, and it causes a tremendous burden on health resources in China [2]. Prediction of outcome at stroke onset based on clinical deficits only is difficult; therefore, rapid measurement of blood biomarkers predicting functional outcome and mortality could prove useful [3].…”

“…In the several studies [49][50][51] copeptin levels were significantly elevated in patients with poor outcomes and in non-survivors. Besides it had a predictive character both independently and together with NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) score.…”
