Plasma Exosome-Derived microRNAs as Potential Diagnostic and Prognostic Biomarkers in Brazilian Pancreatic Cancer Patients

Abstract: Pancreatic cancer represents one of the leading causes of oncological death worldwide. A combination of pancreatic cancer aggressiveness and late diagnosis are key factors leading to a low survival rate and treatment inefficiency, and early diagnosis is pursued as a critical factor for pancreatic cancer. In this context, plasma microRNAs are emerging as promising players due to their non-invasive and practical usage in oncological diagnosis and prognosis. Recent studies have showed some miRNAs associated with … Show more

“…Specific miRNAs could be used as biomarkers for a high-sensible and non-invasive diagnosis of NSCLC at an early-stage [ 29 ]. miR-122-5p is highly expressed in various tumors, including renal cell carcinoma, ovarian cancer, liver cancer, and pancreatic cancer [ 30 33 ]. Thus, it could play a clinical role as a cancer marker in the future [ 34 , 35 ].…”

“…Several studies have reported on the utility of circulating miRNAs as potential biomarkers in PDAC [ 135 , 147 , 152 , 153 , 154 , 155 ]. One study found that themiR-155-5p was not only upregulated in both tumor tissues and plasma of patients with PDAC, but levels of this miRNA were also associated with tumor stage and poor prognosis [ 156 , 157 , 158 ].…”
