Plasma Pentraxin 3 Is Closely Associated with Peripheral Arterial Disease in Hemodialysis Patients and Predicts Clinical Outcome: A 6-Year Follow-Up

Abstract: Background: The aim of this study is to investigate the value of plasma PTX3 level for assessing peripheral artery disease (PAD) and clinical outcome in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Methods: The ankle-brachial index (ABI) was measured in HD patients. PTX3 levels in 116 HD patients were measured by ELISA. Results: Overall, 116 HD patients were enrolled; 21 (18%) patients had PAD. Using the ROC curve analysis for PAD, PTX3 (cut-off value 4.06 ng/ml, AUC 0.901, p < 0.0001) showed a significantly better positive pr… Show more

Therefore, 10 cohort studies were included in this meta-analysis [8–17], of which 10 studies were included for meta-analysis of all-cause mortality [8–17], and 6 were included for CV mortality [810, 12, 15, 16]. “…They were published from 1996 to 2015. 5 articles were from Asia [9, 1316], 2 from the United States [8, 11], 2 from Europe [12, 17], and 1 multinational study from Asia, USA and Europe [10]. An ABI value < 0.9 was the single diagnostic criteria of PAD in 4 studies [8, 9, 13, 15].…”

“…[43][44][45] Regarding markers of inflammation, a number of publications underlined their utility as markers of risk for PAD. [46][47][48] Based on this information, other components of the pentraxin class, such as pentraxin-3 or levels of matrix metalloproteinase, cellular adhesion molecules, interleukin-1 or interleukin-6 levels could have been added to the inflammatory panel to further investigate the relationship between inflammation, imagistic markers, and atherosclerosis.…”
