Plasma permittivity of weakly ionized inhomogeneous magnetized plasmas

Abstract: The longitudinal permittivity of weakly ionized low-temperature inhomogeneous magnetized plasmas is derived on the basis of the kinetic plasma model. Oblique propagation (with respect to the external, Comparatively weak magnetic field) of potential perturbations in d.c. discharge plasmas sustained under conditions of a diffusioncontrolled regime is modelled. The equilibrium plasma state acmnnts for (i) collisions of charged paaicles with neutrals; (ii) plasma inhomogeneity in a direction perpendicular to the e… Show more

“…Crossed electric and magnetic fields with a finite flow along the magnetic field, introduced via a Doppler-shift of the frequency, were treated in Ref. [28]. The result presented here accounts for the non-Maxwellian ion velocity distribution and should be useful to extend the study of ion-dust streaming * Corresponding author.…”

“…In addition, in dc discharges, the influence of the longitudinal electric field should also be considered. The result for the plasma permittivity, which has been derived recently (Kiss'ovski and Shivarova 1995), takes care of all these effects and allows evaluation in terms of a dispersion behaviour of the LF drift-wave instability. Obtained, in fact, for this purpose, it includes not only first but also second-order terms with respect to the E ×B drift velocity and the plasma inhomogeneity, i.e.…”

“…Here the dispersion relation of the LF drift waves in weakly-ionized, weakly-magnetized plasmas of dc gas discharges is derived by using the result for the plasma permittivity obtained by Kiss'ovski and Shivarova (1995). The spectrum and the conditions for instability of the waves are obtained.…”
