Plasma Power Impact on Electrochemical Performance of Low Carbon Steel Coated by Plasma Thin Teos Films

Abstract: Electrochemical properties of thin silicon oxy carbide films were investigated as anticorrosive coatings. The film was deposited on low carbon steel substrate by radio frequency capacitive coupled plasma technique using tetraethyl ortho silicate (TEOS) as a precursor and Ar was used as a carrier gas in dependence on the applied power. The chemical composition and morphological of the deposited films were examined by energydispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) coupled with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The … Show more

“…Table shows the results of this calculation. It is common knowledge that samples having a higher positive corrosion potential are more inert. , It is clear from Table that the blank shows an E corr value of −486.0 mV (vs saturated calomel electrode (SCE)), while the Ni coatings shift to a more positive E corr . The high E corr values of −135.0 mV (vs SCE) and −262.0 mV (vs SCE) are obtained for the Ni coatings prepared at pH = 1 and 6, respectively, indicating their resistance to corrosion.…”

“… 11 13 Anions such as sulfates, nitrates, chlorides, and thiosulfates cause corrosion damage to iron alloys in the industrial environment, significantly lowering their operational life. 14 16 Among the several corrosion protection techniques available, the most successful is the application of inhibitors and coatings 17 19 Organic corrosion inhibitors, on the other hand, might be harmful to the environment, producing cytotoxic and mutagenic damage to biological systems. 20 Surface coating with micro-nano structures can provide good corrosion protection for metallic matrices.…”

“…2 The losses cost could be estimated to billions of dollars every year. 3 Several methods and techniques were developed to resist the corrosion of metals like deposition and coating, [4][5][6][7] however the application of corrosion inhibitors still one of the most suitable and effective methods. 8,9 Corrosion inhibitors are characterized by high degree of adsorption ability onto metallic surface.…”

“…Gangan et al 31 deposited silicon oxycarbide films on low carbon steel using PECVD with tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) as the precursor and argon as the carrier gas. The authors investigated the influence of plasma excitation power on the film corrosion protection properties using potentiodynamic polarization and EIS in 3.5% w/w NaCl solution.…”
