“…Accordingly, high levels of ir-NproANP have been found in the plasma of patients with chronic renal failure (Buckley et al 1989), cir¬ rhosis ), essential hypertension (Matsubara et al 1989), acute myocardial infarction (Ngo et al 1990), supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias (Ngo et al 1991) and congestive heart failure (CHF) (Lerman et al 1993, Mathiesen et al 1993). There is evidence that ANP plays an important role in preserving the compensated state of left ventricular dysfunction in patients without overt heart failure (Francis et al 1990).…”

“…The changes occur even after short periods of pacing and seem to be more pronounced during VVI than DDD or AAIR pacing [34–38]. However, one has to be paced or have atrial fibrillation > 125 beats per minute; all of the patients with atrial fibrillation in the present study had a lower rate [39–41]. In an experimental study in patients with normal left ventricular function, VVI pacing, leading to atrioventricular dissociation in eight patients, was associated with an increase in plasma ANP but not BNP levels.…”

“…We did not find any study reporting the relationship between UI and atrial fibrillation. Elevated level of atrial natriuretic peptide which can cause polyuria may be one the reasons [30]. Understanding the relationship between UI and chronic conditions may be important for prevention and management of UI.…”
