“…ZrB 2 -30 vol.% SiC-20 vol.% MoSi 2 ceramic (ZSM) and ZrB 2 -30 vol.% SiC ceramic (ZS) were successfully prepared via SPS sintering at 1900 0 C. The density was calculated, the hardness, three-point bending strength at room temperature and high temperature were measured and shown in Table 1. The density of ZSM and ZS were both higher than 5 g/cm 3 , close to their theoretical densities. The hardness of ZSM and ZS were 17.2 and 19.6 GPa, separately.…”

“…In recent years, ZrB 2 -SiC ceramic have become one of the most attractive candidate materials for the thermal protection system of the next generation hypersonic vehicles due to its high melting points, high strength, high thermal conductivity and relatively low density [1,2,3,4]. During supersonic flight and re-entry process, ZrB 2 -SiC ceramic will serve in extremely harsh oxidative environment at high temperature.…”

“…Although sphene and HAp powders have similar size distribution, however, the shape of powders may be a little different. Powder shape will affect powder flowability and further affect the coating density (Bartuli et al 2002). In addition, the plasma spraying technique produced sphene coating with denser microstructure than the sol-gel technique.…”

“…Thus, one strategy employs eutectic mixtures whose melting point is lower than the oxidation temperature of SiC [14,15]. Another sealing mechanism resides in encapsulating the sealing agent (core-shell) by metal compounds, to produce a selective oxidation of the metal elements which prevents the sealing agent from further oxidation [10,16].…”
