Platelet Phospholipids and Stypven Clotting Time

Abstract: Summary1. Phospholipids in the thrombocytes were studied in 16 healthy individuals, 18 patients with hepatic cirrhosis and 11 patients suffering from a variety of illnesses which are generally considered to be connected with thrombocytopathy.2. In patients with hepatic cirrhosis the total amount of phospholipids was significantly lower: 8 (µg ± 2 µg lipid P per 109 platelets compared to 12 (µg ± 2 (µg lipid P per 109 platelets in healthy individuals.3. The percentage composition of the phospholipids was the sa… Show more

“…The aim of the present work, therefore, has been to investigate the total and the individual phospholipids in a selected group of diabetic patients with late manifestations. Since evidence has been obtained that the surface charge of the phospholipids is a most important factor in the process of blood coagulation [10], special emphasis has been given to the determination, not only of the total concentrations of the individual phospholipids, but to the relative distribution, especially of lecithin and cephalins, as separated and quantitated by thin layer chromatography. The patients were selected according to investigations on lipoprotein pattern by paper electrophoresis, and determinations of the concentrations of total cholesterol and triglycerides.…”

“…repeated freezing and thawing or incubation with particles such as kaolin [11][12][13]23], The release of PF3 in the presence of polyenes was in vestigated using the method of Spaet and Cintron [23], modified appropri ately. Polyenes were added to platelet-rich plasmas with varying platelet count and the clotting times recorded.…”
