Platinum-catalyzed hydroformylation of terminal and internal octenes

Abstract: A brief historic overview of Pt/Sn-catalyzed hydroformylation as well as recent advances in the hydroformylation of internal alkenes is provided. This serves as background for the results obtained with the [Pt(Sixantphos)Cl(2)] system, for which the molecular structure and the spectroscopic data are described. Insitu UV/Vis-spectroscopic studies have revealed rapid formation of the corresponding Pt-stannate complex upon reaction with SnCl(2), whereas high-pressure insitu IR-spectroscopy showed formation of a P… Show more

“…Concerning the diphosphine derivative, the typical P À M À P angle in a cis palladium complex is 104.68 [Pd(7)A C H T U N G T R E N N U N G (TECN)] [19] while for [PtCl 2 (7)] the angle is 99.178. [20] However, it is known that the weak interaction with the bridgehead oxygen atom can give rise to pseudo-terdentate coordination and hence to very large bite angles. [21] The P À Co bond lengths of~2.3-2.4 are in the typical range observed for Co(II)-phosphine complexes.…”
