“…This disorder has also been associated with the use of α-glucosidase inhibitors, such as acarbose, and patients may present with symptoms of diarrhea, excessive flatulence, mucus discharge, bright red blood per rectum, and constipation. Complications include liver damage, colonic volvulus, pneumoperitoneum, bowel obstruction, and intussusception (1). The underlying mechanism causing these symptoms and bowel-related complications of Pneumatosis Cystoides Intestinalis Secondary to Use of an α-Glucosidase Inhibitor α-glucosidase inhibitors is directly related to the inhibition of glucose uptake by the proximal small bowel.…”
