Point cloud data reduction with tangent function method for nurbs curve and surface fitting

Abstract: Reverse engineering is an approach for constructing geometric models from a physical part through dimensional measurement and surface modeling. In most applications, the method to reconstructed model from point clouds data which is called NURBS. The accuracy of surface reconstruction depends on number of point clouds data, more point clouds data that make calculations more accurate, but it makes to slowly compute. A tangent function method is a new algorithm for reduction point cloud data had presented in this… Show more

“…Moreover, the photos captured by the same device are used to create panoramas, project the colour to a single point of the cloud, and create a VT of the digital survey. The next strong point is the possibility of importing and managing point clouds within both BIM and NURBS modelers that have integrated the necessary applications into their interfaces [55,56]. The BIM or NURBS modelers themselves have integrated functions that allow representation in VR with simple applications and with increasingly appealing material libraries.…”

“…J. Yang et al applicated NURBS in turbomachinery design and obtained satisfactory results, and the redesigned efficiency increased by 3% [24]. Subsequently, Bopit Chouychai et al proposed a tangent function method to find the turning point of curve function by the derivative of the function at a point, to improve the fitting speed of NURBS [25]. J. Apolinar Mu Muñoz Rodr Rodríguez et al and Xiaoqiang Tian et al used a genetic algorithm and BP neural network-based on particle swarm optimization to optimize the control point and knot sequence of the NURBS surface, respectively.…”

“…Recently, various families of 3D Point Cloud Compression (PCC) methods have been proposed [ 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ]. The first step is to set up a regular structure for point clouds to deal with the massive discrete points.…”
