Most research focuses on the open standards ofWeb services and semantic Web but pays less attention to semantics based enterprise modeling, and automated service discovery and service composition are difficult. This paper applies architecture driven modeling approach to constructing semantic enterprise model. Business pattern is the main modeling block that is represented as business components and relationships among them. Business component is attached with semantic information, and component relationships are semantically defined, a primary benefit is that they facilitate automated service discovering, composing, and testing. Business patterns are used to guide service composition by which business goal is mapped into Web services, when business goal is changed, the affected scope of the modifications can be determined by means of component relationships. 2007 IEEE Asia-Pacific Services Computing Conference 0-7695-3051-6/07 $25.00

Abstract. This paper proposes an approach to behaviour-based discovery of Web Services by which business rules that govern service behaviour are described as a policy. The policy is represented in the form of ontological information and is based on actions relating to the service and conditions for performing them. The standard WS-Policy is used to associate such a policy to the Web Service. With a framework that extends standard discovery by UDDI, service consumers can query for Web Services by specifying business constraints. The policy of the Web Service will be evaluated against the consumer's query by using OWL ontology querying engine and a rule-based reasoning module. By considering business rules in addition to the conventional attribute-based search by UDDI, the approach will enable more satisfactory discovery results that better fit service consumers' requirements.

To direct automated Web service composition, it is compelling to provide a template, workflow or scaffolding that dictates the ways in which services can be composed. In this paper we present an approach to Web service composition that builds on work using AI planning, and more specifically Hierarchical Task Networks (HTNs), for Web service composition. A significant advantage of our approach is that it provides much of the how-to knowledge of a choreography while enabling customization and optimization of integrated Web service selection and composition based upon the needs of the specific problem, the preferences of the customer, and the available services. Many customers must also be concerned with enforcement of regulations, perhaps in the form of corporate policies and/or government regulations. Regulations are traditionally enforced at design time by verifying that a workflow or composition adheres to regulations. Our approach supports customization, optimization and regulation enforcement all at composition construction time. To maximize efficiency, we have developed novel search heuristics together with a branch and bound search algorithm that enable the generation of high quality compositions with the performance of state-of-the-art planning systems.
