Polish Adaptation of the Italian Spine Youth Quality of Life Questionnaire

Abstract: The study aimed to carry on the process of the cultural adaptation of the Italian Spine Youth Quality of Life Questionnaire (ISYQOL) into Polish (ISYQOL-PL). The a priori hypothesis was: the ISYQOL-PL questionnaire is reliable and appropriate for adolescents with a spinal deformity. Fifty-six adolescents (mean age 13.8 ± 1.9) with idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) with a mean Cobb angle 29.1 (±9.7) and two with Scheuermann juvenile kyphosis (SJK) with a kyphosis angle 67.5 (±17.7) degrees were enrolled. All patients … Show more

“…The questionnaire is developmentally appropriate for ages 10–18 years and is designed to be self-administrated [ 13 , 14 ]. The recently validated Polish language version (ISYQOL-PL) of the ISYQOL questionnaire was used in the study [ 13 , 17 ].…”

“…The Scoliosis Research Society-22 (SRS-22) questionnaire is the most commonly used [ 10 , 11 , 12 ]; however, new tools are being developed. The Italian Spine Youth Quality of Life (ISYQOL) questionnaire, translated and culturally validated into English, Spanish, and Polish (ISYQOL-PL), is the first questionnaire developed using Rasch analysis to measure the HRQoL in spine deformity during growth [ 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ]. Rasch analysis is a statistical technique for evaluating questionnaires and developing questionnaires’ ordinal scores into interval measures [ 13 , 14 ].…”

“…Additionally, ISYQOL-TC demonstrated excellent test-retest reliability for both the spine health and brace domains (all ICC values > 0.94) among participants with or without bracing. Canadian-French, Persian, and Polish versions of ISYQOL also showed excellent test-retest reliability (ICC > 0.9) [14,18,26], while the simplified Chinese and Arabic versions displayed moderate test-retest reliability (ICC > 0.7) [17,19].…”

“…Higher percentages indicate better HRQOL. ISYQOL has demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha > 0.80) and testretest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient, ICC > 0.9) in Canadian-French, Persian, Polish, and simplified Chinese versions for conservatively treated patients [8,14,18,26].…”
