Political Determinants of State Capacity in Latin America

Abstract: In this article, we argue that þÿ b o t h d e m o c r a c y a n d g o v e r n m e n t s partisanship have had a bearing on state capacity in Latin America.We also maintain that state capacity is a condition rooted in history and society: it can be built or purposefully undermined.
