Poly(1-halogen-2-phenylacetylenes) containing tetraphenylethene units: polymer synthesis, unique emission behaviours and application in explosive detection

Abstract: Pd-based catalysts have shown high activity in the polymerization of 1-chloro-2-phenylacetylene monomers in mild condition, but it is still a challenge to find synthetic routes to the polymers with high...

“…Recently, a limited number of weakly oxyphilic late-transition-metal catalysts based on palladium (Pd) have been reported as effective catalysts for the coordination polymerization of CPAs having both nonpolar and polar substituents (Scheme 1b). 26–33 In these catalysts, the chelating ligands have evolved from monophosphine, monodentate NHC, o -dimethylbenzylamine, and α-diimine ligands to tridentate ( s , s )-bis(oxazolinyphenyl) ligands. In the presence of a cocatalyst, such as AgOTf or NaBAF, these Pd catalysts show moderate activities of less than 1.5 × 10 4 g mol Pd −1 h −1 during polymerization at high temperatures.…”

“…The resulting PCPAs are partly soluble or soluble in commonly used organic solvents and they show mainly cis -selectivity and high crystallinity. 33,34 However, these known Pd catalysts still possess some shortcomings and deficiencies, such as being high cost, requiring complicated synthesis, needing a cocatalyst and high polymerization temperatures, being sensitive to air, etc . Developing practical and green metal catalysts for the coordination polymerization of CPAs is a goal that researchers are striving to achieve.…”
