Poly(dimethylsiloxane) and Poly[vinyltrimethoxysilane-co-2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate] Based Cross-Linked Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Adsorbent for Copper(II) Removal from Aqueous Solutions

Abstract: An organic-inorganic hybrid adsorbent was prepared and its application for the uptake of Cu II ions from aqueous solutions was studied. The polymer network was composed of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS), and 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA), described as PDMS-net-P(VTMS-co-DMAEMA). The chemical groups, thermal stability and morphology of this hybrid adsorbent were characterized using techniques of attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR… Show more

“…The bands in 1403 cm −1 , which are seen in the spectrum related to the surface containing 10% PDMS, are related to the asymmetric deformation of the C─H bond. The peaks between 1262 and 1266 cm −1 are related to the symmetrical deformations of the C─H bond of Si (CH 3 ) 2 groups …”

“…PDMS is a polymer of silicon and polysiloxane class containing silane terminal groups. By condensing Si═OH groups with a cross‐linker, strong polymer networks are formed . PDMS has been frequently used in hydrophobic surface preparation in recent years but has never been applied to the catalyst layer of PEM fuel cell.…”

“…The study of thermal decomposition behaviour has been mainly carried out in the literature for bulk PDMS with a different level and type of cross-linker agents [25], different molecular weights [26], or catalyst free PDMS [27].…”

“…The data were treated according to the kinetic models of pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and fractionary order, taking into consideration the value of the linear correlation coefficient (R 2 ) and the error function ( F error ) (Eq. 2) [22], that correlate the theoretical amount of analyte adsorbed by the material with that measured experimentally, considering the number of parameters of the fitted model [23].…”
