Poly[hydronium [μ-(ethylenediaminetetraacetato-κ8N,N′,O,O′,O′′,O′′′:O′′′′,O′′′′′)erbate(III)] monohydrate]

Abstract: The erbium(III) atom in the title compound, {(H3O)[Er(C10H12N2O8)]·H2O}n, is N,N′,O,O′,O′′,O′′′‐chelated by the ethylenediaminetetraacetate tetraanion. It is also linked to the O atoms of two other tetraaanions in the polyanionic layer. The metal atom, which lies on a special position of site symmetry m, exists in a square‐antiprismatic geometry. The tetraanion is disordered across a mirror plane. The oxonium cation and water molecule are disordered in a ratio of 2:1; they occupy the space between adjacent lay… Show more

“…While another [Ln(EDTA−3H)] series with crystal structures had been reported; not as monomeric complexes but as ones having bridged Ln ions by oxygen atoms described in Table 9 and Figure 6. Some [Ln(EDTA−3H)] are denoted as H 3 O[Ln(EDTA−4H)] in the original articles [61][62][63]. Since it should be the -COO − more basic than water molecules to receive H + , all compounds are unified as a category within a series of [Ln(EDTA−3H)] herein.…”

“…However, as a widely used multidentate ligand, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid shows limited coordination modes with lanthanides, such as a mononuclear or oligomer species Ln(edta)ÁnH 2 O or MLn(edta)ÁnH 2 O (M = Na, K, Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Er) [22][23][24][25], Na 2 K 2 [Ce 2 (O 2 ) 2 (edta) 2 ]Á13H 2 O [26], Na 10 [La 4 (l 3 -OH) 4 (edta) 4 ]Á 2ClO 4 Á27H 2 O [27]. Most of the insoluble coordination polymers are formed in hydrothermal condition with general formula {[Ln(Hedta)(H 2 O)] 2 } n (Ln = La, Nd, Sm, Er) [28][29][30][31], and one [Ce 3 (Hedta) 2 (H 2 O) 9 ] n [Cr(OH) 6 Mo 6 O 18 ] n ÁnH 2 O was reported [32]. Here, a novel 2-D water-soluble MOF of lanthanum ethylenediaminetetraacetate [La 5 Cl 2 (edta) 3 3 ] n (3) by the addition of nitrate or sulfate.…”
