Poly(Taurine‐Glutathione)/Carbon Nanotube Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode as a New Levofloxacin Sensor

Abstract: A new highly sensitive and selective electrochemical levofloxacin sensor based on co‐polymer‐carbon nanotube composite electrode was developed. Taurine and Glutathione were electrochemically co‐polymerized on multiwalled carbon nanotubes modified glassy carbon electrode (Poly(TAU‐GSH)/CNT/GCE) and used as a levofloxacin sensor in pH 6 phosphate buffer solution. The new composite electrode surfaces were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and electrochemical impedance spectros… Show more

“…Their attractive properties are related to their nanometric scale, large specific area, high chemical and thermal stability, high elasticity and electrical conductivity, often comparable to metallic nanomaterials . Thus, they are an advantageous option to investigate the electrochemistry of pharmaceutical and health‐related compounds, especially when combined with a second component such as polymers, phthalocyanines, or biological recognition elements …”

“…The polished electrode was rinsed with water and kept in the ultrasonic bath for 5 minutes to remove any residue from the polishing procedure. The isoleucine polymerization was performed by a procedure similar to that published previously [31]. In general, the polymerization characteristic of amino acids appears to be similar [24].…”

“…Then it was rinsed and ultrasonicated in water. The cleaned electrode was dipped in the PBS (0.1 M pH 7.2) containing 3 mM taurine solution and 10 repetitive potential cycles were applied between the potential range of −1.5 V to+2 V with 0.1 V s −1 scan rate as it was described in the previous work . The possible mechanism of electropolymerization for taurine has been shown in previous studies .…”

“…It can be easily electro polymerized on the electrode surface with the help of aminic and À SO 3 À group in its structure [15,16]. Some studies have focused on the use of polymerized TAU as an electrode material including the determination of arsenic [17], malondialdehyde [18], glucose [19], hydrazine [20], levofloxacin [21], acetaminophen and caffeine [22], epinephrine and dopamine [23].…”
