Polycaprolactone facial volume restoration of a 46‐year‐old Asian women: A case report

Abstract: SummaryA 46-year-old Asian women was treated with a next-generation bioresorbable biostimulatory polycaprolactone (PCL)-based dermal filler to restore facial volume loss.Before-and after (12 weeks of follow-up)-treatment photographs were analyzed and compared. In addition, before-and after-treatment contour images were recorded using the Vectra â XT 3D imaging system (Canfield Scientific, Inc.).Improvement of facial volume in multiple tissue layers was observed at 4 and 12 weeks of follow-up. Total facial reju… Show more

“…The results showed improvement in facial volume in multiple tissue layers on photographs and 3D imaging (Vectra XT), achieving total facial rejuvenation from upper, midface and lower face 12 weeks posttreatment. 78 The effect was also shown on forehead augmentation in 58 Asian subjects up to 24 months after injection of the product in several points into the submuscular layer using cannula. Forehead augmentation is very important to achieve a beautiful face and optimal younger appearance.…”

“…The authors stated that the treatment was well tolerated. 62,[75][76][77][78][79][80] In the European clinical study, safety being the primary end point, the injection site reactions (ISRs) reported occurring immediately or rapidly after injection were similar to those encountered after injection of any filler; swelling and bruising/ecchymosis of mild intensity were noted and they disappeared in 2 to 4 days. In 2 subjects minor side effects ecchymosis in one case and ecchymosis/edema in the other lasted 15 days and 8 days, respectively; 2 adverse events were likely to be attributable to the PCL filler: only one in the 90 subjects that was reported over the 18 months follow-up had to be treated: it was 1 case of subcutaneous nodule on one NLF side; it resolved after corticoid injection.…”

“…Wrinkle severity and global aesthetic improvement of the nasolabial folds were shown, and patient satisfaction was very high. Interestingly, global rejuvenation was successfully obtained after a multilayer treatment, with the filler placed in three different levels of the face in the same session 9 . One study on the effect on forehead augmentation involving 58 subjects also concluded that no vascular complications occurred using this filler 17 .…”

“…For the superficial and deep fat placements, a retrograde fanning technique was performed using 25‐G, 40‐mm cannulas. The amount injected also depended on the surface area to treat, with each linear thread of 0.1 mL/cm 2 9 . The injection locations covered all the facial areas detailed in the publication of recommendations, 7 without placement of the product in any contraindicated areas, such as the periorbital area, lips, and labella.…”

“…[26][27][28] Clinical studies, including prospective randomized controlled trials (RCTs), have shown product safety and efficacy in the treatment of nasolabial folds, 29,30 forehead augmentation, 31 hand rejuvenation, 32 and complete facial rejuvenation. 33 Consensus guidelines stated that this PCL collagen stimulator offers noteworthy advantages over PLLA-based fillers, as the results are immediately visible, and over HA-and CaHA-based fillers, due to better stability and duration of the results. 34 A worldwide post market survey (2012-2019) found a 0.0562% AEs rate, confirming excellent safety in daily practice.…”
