Polymer Carbon Nanodots: A Novel Electrochemiluminophore for Dual Mode Detection of Ferric Ions

Abstract: The development of simple and effective dual-mode analytical methods plays crucial regulatory roles in the discrimination of relevant target species, because of their built-in cross reference correction and high accuracy. In this work, a novel polymer carbon nanodots (PCNDs) prepared from a facile one-pot hydrothermal procedure using readily available L-tryptophan and L-phenylalanine as precursors, showed excellent aqueous solubility and blue fluorescence property with a high quantum yield of 29%. Moreover, th… Show more

“…Besides, they are only stuck in a single detection mode, which is easy to be interfered with the testing environment. By contrast, the dual-mode detection platform provides the cross reference from two modes for establishing a built-in correction toward environmental effects, , which is beneficial for achieving a higher accuracy in actual onsite point-of-care (POC) analysis.…”

“…The UV−visible spectra of SCQDs and ACQDs aqueous suspensions exhibit similar characteristic absorption bands, observed obviously at about 282 nm, which can be assigned to the π−π* transition of the sp 2 domains. 55,56 As shown in Figure 3b,c, the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the SCQDs aqueous suspension exhibit strong maximum excitation and emission wavelengths at 485 and 390 nm, respectively. In addition, SCQDs show excitation-dependent emission behaviors, that is, as the excitation wavelength varied from 330 to 390 nm, the PL peak position of SCQDs shifted to a longer wavelength from 453 to 486 nm.…”

“…Although most of the reported works possess ascendant sensitivity for quantitative determination, those depend heavily on single-mode output that can result in some drawbacks containing poor external anti-interference ability, high background and false signals caused by non-standard experimental processes, diverse operators, or different test environments, which influence the accuracy of analysis to some extent. To resolve the abovementioned shortcoming, much work of a dual-mode readout has been developed recently where a verifiable dual response is outputted from two different test methods and relatively independent signal transduction, for instance, FL-CL, , PEC-EC, , FL-ECL, , EC-CL, , and ECL-EC. , No interference between these two signal output pathways is benefiting from the unalike transduction pattern in dual-response analysis. Among them, the ECL-EC dual-mode strategy has come into notice of researchers.…”
