Polymer Nanocomposites Exploited Under The Arctic Conditions

Abstract: Several technologies of the preparation of nanocomposites based on ultra-highmolecular-weight polyethylene were developed. The first technology is based on mechanical activation of layered silicates with surfactant before addition into polymer matrix. The second technology represents mixing of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene with nanoparticles by joint mechanical activation in a planetary mill. The third technology is based on mixing of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene with nanoparticles in li… Show more

“…The composite containing 30 wt% biochar filler achieved the lowest elongation at break, of 10%. However, it should be noted that the standard deviation as presented in Table S2 in the Supplementary Material was very low (0.15%), which may be related to the good distribution of the filler in the matrix [34]. The 30 wt% PBAT/PLA/biochar composite showed half the elongation value of the pure matrix, which reached an average value of 19%.…”

“…Several studies [12,13] has established that increase in the wear resistance of polymer composite materials (PCM) is observed during investigation of PTFE with carbon fillers. The authors explain itby the ability of the filler particles to block and "heal" the cracks formed in the near-surface layer.…”

“…Enhancing the UHMWPE properties can be achieved by different methods through irradiation, surface modification, introducing effective textures, varying cross-linking, crystallinity percentage, reinforcements with particles or fibers [6]. Among the available publications, there are innovative developments related to the possibility of using composite materials based on UHMWPE to protect equipment from climate and environmental factors (exposure to aggressive media) [7][8][9][10][11], as well as their use as materials for microwave Powders 2023, 2 579 applications [12] or substrates for dielectric resonators [13]. It is believed that for these purposes the polymer of choice should have a high permittivity, low dielectric losses, as well as high mechanical characteristics.…”
