Polymer-Scaffolded Synthesis of Periodic Mesoporous Organosilica Nanomaterials for Delivery Systems in Cancer Cells

Abstract: We developed four types of para-phenylene-bridged periodic mesoporous organosilica NPs (p-P PMO NPs) with tailored physical parameters including size, morphology, porosity, and surface area using a new polymer-scaffolding approach. The particles have been formulated to facilitate the codelivery of small-molecule hydrophobic/hydrophilic cargos such as model anticancer drugs (i.e., doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) and O 6-benzylguanine) and model fluorescent dyes (i.e., rhodamine 6G and Nile red). p-P PMO NPs wer… Show more

“…The introduction of organic groups, which were embedded in the framework through covalent bonds, makes periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs) not only have the excellent characteristic of mesoporous materials but also have the unique properties of organic groups. Active sites provided by organic groups make PMOs have a wide range of applications, such as catalysis, adsorption, drug delivery, , sensing, , and so on. Especially, PMO materials have been used as fluorescence sensors to detect many metal ions, such as Cu 2+ , Co 2+ , Zn 2+ , etc .…”
