“… Conversion of ReS 2 with K 13 CN and KC 15 N, resulted in a diagnostic 13 C NMR resonance at 435 ppm in the isotopically enriched clusters, confirming cyanide to be the source of the μ 6 -carbide ligand. In subsequent reactions, the peripheral μ-S 2– and CN – ligands are prone to substitution, whereas the core of the complex remains conserved. Treatment of K 6 [Re 12 (μ 6 -C)­(μ-S) 3 (μ 3 -S) 14 (CN) 6 ] with H 2 O 2 results in oxidation of the μ 2 -sulfide ligands on the vertical edges of the central trigonal prism, producing bridging SO 2 2– ligands: (Ph 4 P) 6 [Re 12 (μ 6 -C)­(μ-SO 2 ) 3 (μ 3 -S) 14 (CN) 6 ] . Upon exposure to sunlight, one of the SO 2 2– ligands can be oxidized to a bridging sulfite ligand.…”
