Polymerization mechanism of poly(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) fragrance nanocapsules

Abstract: At 80 °C, the homopolymerization of the monomer contained in the oil phase caused the precipitation of the polymer on the surface of nanoemulsion drops under the protection of N2 leading to the formation of nanocapsules.

“…In the Ni‐modified samples, additional bands related to the acetylacetonate precursor have been observed for C–O stretch at ≈1593 cm −1 , CH 3 symmetric deformation (1396 cm −1 ), and at 1261 cm −1 for C–C stretch. Moreover, the presence of PEGM in PEGM‐modified Ni‐SMP precursors has been confirmed by the presence of bands related to C–O–C stretching (≈1100 cm −1 ), CC stretch (1631 cm −1 ; overlap with the band of SMP‐10), CO stretch (1728 cm −1 ), and ν (O–H) (1000–1200 cm −1 ) …”

“…Moreover, the presence of PEGM in PEGM-modified Ni-SMP precursors has been confirmed by the presence of bands related to C-O-C stretching (%1100 cm À1 ), C═C stretch (1631 cm À1 ; overlap with the band of SMP-10), C═O stretch (1728 cm À1 ), and ν(O-H) (1000-1200 cm À1 ). [25] The precursors without nickel modification show the presence of Si-H groups with strong bands at %2119 and 933 cm À1 related to Si-H stretching and Si-H bending, respectively. Furthermore the presence of allyl bands were confirmed by the absorption bands at 1631 cm À1 (C═C stretch in -CH═CH 2 ) and 3076 cm À1 (C-H stretch in -CH═CH 2 ).…”

“…The absorption at 747 and 833 cm ‐1 was attributed to Si‐C stretching and Si‐CH 3 rocking. Moreover, ν(COC) at ~1100 cm −1 and ν(O‐H) (1000–1200 cm −1 ) whereas the bands at 1631 cm −1 (C = C stretch; overlap with the band of SMP‐10) and 1728 cm −1 C = O stretch were observed and assigned to the poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate in the precursors …”

“…According to our previous studies, hollow nanocapsules with three different monomers were prepared by interfacial freeradical polymerization, as shown in Figure S1, Supporting Information. [50,51] In Figure 2a, the structural properties of nanocapsules had a significant effect on their enrichment in the lungs. It could be seen from transmission electron microscope (TEM) images (in Figure 2b,c) that PBDDMA nanocapsules (BNC), PHDDMA nanocapsules (HNC), and PEGDMA nanocapsules (ENC) were spherical in shape and core-shell structures with sizes around 65 nm.…”
