Polymerization of N‐vinylcarbazole, 3. Studies of copolymerizations with methyl methacrylate and styrene

Abstract: Copolymers of N-vinylcarbazole (VCZ) with methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene (ST) were prepared using doubly-labelled benzoyl peroxide as initiator and the relative numbers of benzoyloxy and phenyl endgroups were determined. In the copolymers containing MMA, the ratios of the two types of end-group are those expected for products of free radical polymerization. The copolymers of VCZ with ST contain benzoyloxy and phenyl end-groups in proportions which correspond to those found in homopolymers ofVCZ made in … Show more

“…Synthesis of PA by classical radical polymerization has been widely studied [9][10][11]. Using the azoic initiator azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN) led to conventional radical polymerization while using benzoic peroxide (BPO) led to cationic and radical mechanisms [12].…”

“…Copolymerization with suitable monomers could soften the resulting product, leading to better film properties, and improve its mechanical properties. The copolymerization of N ‐vinylcarbazole with monomers such as alkyl acrylates and alkyl methacrylates has been studied by several investigators 3–6…”

“…The copolymerization of N-vinylcarbazole with monomers such as alkyl acrylates and alkyl methacrylates has been studied by several investigators. [3][4][5][6] The determination of the microstructure in copolymers is useful for establishing the structure-property relationship. 7 It is well known that NMR spectroscopy is probably the most effective method for characterizing the microstructures of polymers.…”
