Polymorphism of excision repair genes XPD, XRCC1, and hOGG1 in the population of the republic of Belarus and its impact on carcinogenesis

Abstract: This paper analyzes excision repair gene polymorphisms (XPD Asp312Asn, XRCC1 Arg399Gln, and hOGG1 Ser326Cys) in patients diagnosed with bladder cancer and subjects without cancer. The frequen cies of the minor alleles of these genes in Belarus are in the range of values observed in Caucasian populations. The genotype/allele frequencies in patients with bladder cancer do not differ from the control, suggesting that single nucleotide polymorphisms in these genes do not affect the predisposition to the disease.
