Polymorphisms in Oxytocin and α1aAdrenergic Receptor Genes and Their Effects on Production Traits in Dairy Buffaloes

Abstract: The use of molecular markers may auxiliary the buffalo breeding. The oxytocin (OXT) and the adrenergic receptor α1A (ADRA1A) may be involved in milk ejection in ruminants. The aim of this study was to verify the existence of polymorphisms in the OXT and ADRA1A genes and their associations with milk production traits. A total of 220 buffaloes were genotyped using PCR-RFLP for both genes. The SNP identified in the ADRA1A gene was associated with protein percentage in dairy buffaloes. This is the first report of … Show more

“…Single-organism cellular process (GO:0044763) with 64 genes was significantly enriched (P = 0.05) in ROH islands, including MARS (methionyl-tRNA synthetase, on BTA5), and ADRA1D (adrenoceptor alpha 1D, on BTA13). MARS has been reported to influence milk and protein production in Chinese [52] and Portuguese [53] Holstein cattle, and ADRA1D largely affects milk protein in Murrah dairy buffalo [54]. INHBC and INHBE (inhibin beta C and E subunits, on BTA5) have been reported as candidate genes associated with reproductive performance in tropical young bulls [55], and composite reproductive traits in Lori-Bakhtiari sheep [56].…”

“…Single-organism cellular process (GO:0009987) with 64 genes was significantly enriched (p = 0.05), which contains the MARS (methionyl-tRNA synthetase) and ADRA1D (adrenoceptor alpha 1D also known as ADRA1A) genes on BTA5 and 13, respectively. Surprisingly, MARS has previously been reported to be in association with milk and protein production in Chines [47] and Portuguese [48] Holstein cattle, and ADRA1D with milk protein in Murrah dairy buffaloes [49]. Other interesting genes within this category were INHBC and INHBE (inhibin beta C and E subunits) on BTA 5 reported as candidate genes associate with reproductive ability of tropical young bulls [50], and with composite reproductive traits of Lori-Bakhtiari sheep [51].…”
