Polyoxometalate‐Mediated One‐Pot Synthesis of Pd Nanocrystals with Controlled Morphologies for Efficient Chemical and Electrochemical Catalysis

Abstract: Polyoxometalates (POMs), as inorganic ligands, can endow metal nanocrystals (NCs) with unique reactivities on account of their characteristic redox properties. In the present work, we present a facile POM-mediated one-pot aqueous synthesis method for the production of single-crystalline Pd NCs with controlled shapes and sizes. The POMs could function as both reducing and stabilizing agents in the formation of NCs, and thus gave a fine control over the nucleation and growth kinetics of NCs. The prepared POM-sta… Show more

“…“One-pot” synthesis has been proven to be very effective in preparing POMs of various types including tris-functionalized hexavanadates and uncapped Anderson-type clusters. However, it has rarely been applied in the synthesis of tris-functionalized Anderson polyoxomolybdates. In recent years, the hydrothermal syntheses of tris-functionalized Anderson polyoxomolybdates and polyoxotungstates have been developed by Song and Rompel, respectively. However, in these works, the uncapped Anderson precursors still needed to be prepared at first.…”

“…POMs is one of the most outstanding materials in modern chemistry, as the metal-oxide clusters with abundant structures and interesting properties [1][2][3][4][5][6], which render them to potential applications in electrochemistry [7,8], photochemistry [9,10], catalytic fields [11,12], and so on (Figure 1). Chalkley reported the photoredox conversion of H 3 [PW 12 O 40 ] into a reduced POM by photoirradiation with UV light in the presence of 2-propanol as a reducing reagent in 1952 [13].…”

“…Thus, gadolinium polytungstates can act as radiosensitizers to improve antitumor radiotherapy therapeutic efficiency. Moreover, after electrochemical or photochemical reduction, reduced gadolinium polytungstates with dark blue colors can efficiently absorb and convert NIR light into heat 77 for use as PTT agents in the thermal ablation of cancer cells. Most importantly, the ultrasmall size of gadolinium polytungstates enables a rapid renal clearance after treatment and greatly reduces their potential side effects.…”
