Polytypism of Pb‐doped Single Crystals of Cadmium Iodide

Abstract

The zone refining technique has been used both for the purification of cadmium iodide and for the growth of lead-doped single crystals of cadmium iodide. The as-grown crystals when studied by X-ray diffraction show exclusive presence of the most common polytype 4H. The hexagonal plate-shaped crystals of the doped material, grown from aqueous solution, show polytypisni, but of a different nature than the crystals of pure cadmiuni iodide. The results have been discussed.
