Exploring the possible consequences of spatial reciprocity on the evolution of cooperation is an intensively studied research avenue. Related works assumed a certain interaction graph of competing players and studied how particular topologies may influence the dynamical behavior. In this paper we apply a numerically more demanding off-lattice population approach which could be potentially relevant especially in microbiological environments. As expected, results are conceptually similar to those which were obtained for lattice-type interaction graphs, but some spectacular differences can also be revealed. On one hand, in off-lattice populations spatial reciprocity may work more efficiently than for a lattice-based system. On the other hand, competing strategies may separate from each other in the continuous space concept, which gives a chance for cooperators to survive even at relatively high temptation values. Furthermore, the lack of strict neighborhood results in soft borders between competing patches which jeopardizes the long term stability of homogeneous domains. We survey the major social dilemma games based on pair interactions of players and reveal all analogies and differences compared to on-lattice simulations.

The basic social dilemma is frequently captured by a public goods game where participants decide simultaneously whether to support a common pool or not and after the enhanced contributions are distributed uniformly among all competitors. What if the result of common efforts is not distributed immediately, but it is reinvested and added to the pool for a next round? This extension may not only result in an enhanced benefit for group members but also opens new strategies for involved players because they may act in distinct rounds differently. In this work we focus on the simplest case when two rounds are considered, but the applied multiplication factors dedicated to a certain round can be different. We show that in structured populations the winning strategy may depend sensitively on the ratio of these factors and the last round has a special importance to reach a fully cooperative state. We also observe that it may pay for defectors to support the first round and after enjoy the extra benefit of accumulated contributions. Full cooperator strategy is only viable if the second round ensures a premium benefit of investments.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the corresponding lockdown measures have been confirmed to reduce the air pollution in major megacities worldwide. Especially at some monitoring hotspots, NO 2 has been verified to show a significant decrease. However, the diffusion pattern of these hotspots in responding to COVID-19 is not clearly understood at present stage. Hence, we selected Beijing, a typical megacity with the strictest lockdown measures during COVID-19 period, as the studied city and attempted to discover the NO 2 diffusion process through complex network method. The improved metrics derived from the topological structure of the network were adopted to describe the performance of diffusion. Primarily, we found evidences that COVID-19 had significant effects on the spatial diffusion distribution due to combined effect of changed human activities and meteorological conditions. Besides, to further quantify the impacts of disturbance caused by different lockdown measures, we discussed the evolutionary diffusion patterns from lockdown period to recovery period. The results displayed that the difference between normal operation and pandemic operation firstly increased at the cutoff of lockdown measures but then declined after the implement of recovery measures. The source areas had greater vulnerability and lower resilience than receptors areas. Furthermore, based on the conclusion that the diffusion pattern changed during different periods, we explored the key stations on the path of diffusion process to further gain information. These findings could provide references for comprehending spatiotemporal pattern on city scale, which might be help for high-resolution air pollution mapping and prediction.
