Poor-quality sleep score is an independent predictor of nondipping hypertension

Abstract: We showed that poor sleep quality was related with a nondipping pattern, and furthermore, it was an independent predictor of nondipping in newly diagnosed stage 1 hypertensive patients.

“…19,26,36 Nevertheless, several studies reported that there was an association between non-dipper status, which was defined as blood pressure drop less than 10% during sleep, and sleep quality using the PSQI. 8,9,37,38 The present results demonstrate that eGFR as a continuous variable was not a significant determinant for sleep quality in our study cohort (OR: 1.006 per 1 mL/min difference in eGFR, 95% CI: 0.98-1.03, p: 0.63). This finding was supported by a previous report in CKD patients.…”

“…1 Although, the determinants of the disease are well-defined in the general population, a lack of evidence supporting the correlates in CKD patients necessitates further investigations in that area. [4][5][6][7][8][9] Furthermore, most of the data are from the dialysis population, and identifiers of poor sleep quality in non-dialysis CKD patients also require more research. 10,11 We hypothesize that sleeping problems correlate with the degree of kidney dysfunction, presence of diabetes mellitus and hypertension, and these conditions might affect quality of life in CKD patients.…”

“…Several previous reports using ambulatory blood pressure monitoring indicated that blood pressure and dipping status were associated with impaired sleep. [31][32][33] We only measured blood pressure on one occasion, which might make it difficult to identify any possible correlation between sleep and blood pressure.…”
