Population trapping in bound states during IR-assisted ultrafast photoionization ofNe+

Abstract: We have investigated photoionization of Ne + in the combined field of a short infra-red laser pulse and a delayed ultra-short pulse of the infra-red laser's 23 rd harmonic. We observe an ionization yield compatible with a picture in which one electron gets excited into Rydberg states by the harmonic laser field and is subsequently removed by the infra-red laser field. Modulations are seen in the ionization yield as a function of time delay. These modulations originate from the trapping of population in low mem… Show more

“…The two methods can therefore explore the influence of a different set of interactions on the electron dynamics. Through the inclusion of correlation orbitals, the RMT approach has the capability to obtain an accurate description of the dynamics of open-shell systems as well as closed-shell systems [12,13,18,19]. The capability to account for correlation in both the initial and residual ionic system is critical for this accuracy.…”

“…RMT is thus the leading method able to describe atomic structure in sufficient detail to provide direct, ab initio solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation (TDSE) for multielectron atoms or ions. These capabilities have been demonstrated in the investigation of photoionization of Ne + in combined infrared/XUV pulses [29]. The approach has recently been used to demonstrate the spin-orbit dynamics in the ground state of carbon with zero and nonzero initial magnetic quantum number [30].…”

“…Soon after, the R-matrix theory including time dependence (RMT) [25][26][27][28] was proposed based on the same SP concept with the Bloch operator [29] formalism but directly treating the wave function without the R matrix. The Arnoldi Lanczos scheme [30,31] is exploited in RMT to execute the time propagation more efficiently than in TDRM, and has successfully led to various applications [32][33][34][35][36][37][38]. The TD restricted-and generalized-active-space configurationinteraction [TD-(RAS/GAS)CI] approach [39][40][41] follows the same SP strategy, and is similar to RMT but based on the finite-element discrete-variable-representation (FEDVR) functions (see, e.g., Ref.…”
