Porous Ceramics Adsorbents Based on Glass Fiber-Reinforced Plastics for NOx and SOx Removal

Abstract: To reuse waste glass fiber-reinforced plastics (GFRPs), porous ceramics (i.e., GFRP/clay ceramics) were produced by mixing crushed GFRP with clay followed by firing the resulting mixture under different conditions. The possibility of using ceramics fired under a reducing atmosphere as adsorbent materials to remove NOx and SOx from combustion gases of fossil fuels was investigated because of the high porosity, specific surface area, and contents of glass fibers and plastic carbides of the ceramics. NO2 and SO2 … Show more

“…NO 2 and SO 2 are the main combustion gases of fossil fuels. We tested whether Akahoya can adsorb these gases, as shown in Figure 4 [ 49 ]. The experimental apparatus comprised a NO 2 or SO 2 gas cylinder, air cylinder (Standard gas, Hinode-sanso, Nobeoka, Japan), 50 L chemical resistance sampling bag (Tedlar Tech-Jam, Osaka, Japan), air pump (APN-085E-D2-W, Iwaki, Tokyo, Japan), digital flowmeter (CMS0020BSRN, Azbil, Tokyo, Japan), test tube, and instrument for measuring the NO 2 or SO 2 concentration (XPS-7, New Cosmos Electric, Osaka, Japan).…”
