Abstract:IntroductionPorphyromonas gingivalis and Porphyromonas endodontalis belong to the Bacteroidota phylum. Both species inhabit the oral cavity and can be associated with periodontal diseases. To survive, they must uptake heme from the host as an iron and protoporphyrin IX source.
