“…Besides monitoring environmental contamination described above, examples of the recently developed biosensors include the following: (1) Aptamer-based biosensors to target disease biomarkers, such as platelet-derived growth factor BB (PDGF-BB), a cancer related protein, to help early diagnosis and prognosis of cancer development [134]. (2) Biosensors for the azole class of antifungal drugs with application in the therapeutic drug monitoring of patients with invasive fungal infections [135].…”

“…However, traditional PGMs can only be used to measure blood glucose levels. To broaden the application range of glucose meters, we and others have coupled an aptamer, DNAzyme, or antibodies to invertase or amylases, thus converting different nonglucose targets into glucose. Based on this principle, various sensing strategies using PGM as the readout were reported. However, because the PGMs are used to detect blood glucose that is normally in the millimolar range, the sensitivities of most PGM-based sensors are still low, especially for small molecules. ,, To address this issue, we report herein a general aptasensing platform based on a PGM and DNAzyme signal amplification for the detection of small molecules such as mycotoxins, resulting in highly sensitive detection of small molecules by a simple PGM.…”

“…Sucrose might be converted into glucose using cleaved DNA tagged with invertase, leading to a color change from yellow to green as measured by PGM. The elevated PGM signal correlates with PDGF-BB concentrations ranging from 3.16 × 10 − 16 to 3.16 × 10 − 12 M, with a LOD of 0.11 fM [ 86 ].…”
